Indigenous Youth from Pacific region share story from our communities, covering our own experiences of climate impacts, and the outcomes we need to see from COP27 to ensure climate justice for our communities.

Indigenous Women and Resilience: Post Covid Livelihood Elevation and Autonomy in West Africa
The Indigenous Women’s Council facilitates projects for nomadic and semi-nomadic women in West Africa and Sahel. Focussing on post covid capacity building and livelihood elevation to strengthen female empowerment for independence and autonomy. Six panellists will speak from a country perspective on their approach to indigenous women’s issues and the implementation, success and development of their gender program. The Indigenous Women’s Council will also showcase their new website and multimedia approach.

Mujeres indígenas, daños y pérdidas por la crisis climática: despojo territorial y soberanía alimentaria
Los pueblos y mujeres indígenas impactados en sus modos de vida colectiva por el cambio climático que genera pérdidas y daños en sus cultivos, semillas y biodiversidad; afectando sus economías propias y soberanía alimentaria. Demandan políticas públicas que incluyan tecnologías y ciencia ancestral.

Defining Indigenous Peoples’ Principles and Standards on Nature- Based Solutions and Voluntary Carbon Markets
The event will look at how some current and potential future climate actions (including Nature-Based Solutions and Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCM) are and could impact indigenous peoples. Specifically, the event will share case studies on Indigenous Peoples contributions through their indigenous knowledge systems and customary governance to “Nature-Based Solutions” conducted by Indigenous Peoples in 6 countries (2 from Latin America, 2 from Africa and 2 from Asia. Overall, the event will also look at the existing construction of and debates on “NBS” with indigenous peoples’ perspectives, commentaries and observations on the ongoing “NBS” dialogues. The discussions will also explore the intersectionality of NBS and Voluntary Carbon Markets in the frame of human and indigenous peoples’ rights. What principles should VCM adhere to? How is this going to learn from experiences of indigenous peoples in climate financing?

Open dialogue with Indigenous women
We, indigenous and local community women, are the unsung heroes of climate action. As transmitters of ancestral knowledge and custodians of seeds and life, we preserve both biological and cultural diversity. The impacts of climate change on our communities comeafter centuries of oppression, discrimination and gender-based violence. Today, we are uniting forces across the globe to respond to the human crisis we are all facing. It is time for our voices to be heard. Our ancestral wisdom must be recognized and taken into account in the construction of joint solutions to the climate crisis.
