Se presentarán experiencias de protección territorial como medidas de control del cambio climático, relacionadas con las prácticas tradicionales e iniciativas propias de los Pueblos Indígenas Amazónicos de Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Perú y Surinam. Siendo determinante que las voces de los protagonistas naturales de esta labor invaluable de protección territorial se amplifiquen mundialmente, esperamos que, a través de la presentación de experiencias y prácticas tradicionales que ocurren diariamente en la Amazonía, se reconozca la tutela realizada por los Pueblos Indígenas en beneficio de toda la humanidad.

Indigenous Rights and Sovereignty: Moving Beyond Carbon Markets and Other False Solutions

This presentation focuses on Indigenous rights and sovereignty within the context of carbon markets, including the implications of carbon pricing mechanisms for the physical, emotional, and spiritual health of Indigenous Nations and communities. Further, there will be discussions regarding the risks associated with carbon sequestering and the likelihood that such practices will result in further theft of Indigenous lands. Drawing on their lived experiences as community members and advocates within the climate justice movement, the panellists will share their perspectives on how to move beyond false solutions and towards the respect of Indigenous rights and the revitalization of Indigenous sovereignty.

The Impact of Climate Change on Indigenous Peoples of Russia

This Side Event «The Impact of Climate Change on Indigenous Peoples of Russia” provides the opportunity to learn about methods and practices of indigenous peoples of Russia in increasing their resilience towards to climate change, to hear about the perspectives of Indigenous communities affected by climate change. The audience will learn about the effects of climate change on Indigenous communities in the Arctic. The event is focused on providing deeper knowledge for understanding about the interplay of traditional knowledge systems, rooted in indigenous ways of life, cultural approaches and traditional occupations. Audience of the side-vent will introduce with practices of indigenous peoples of Magadan, Yakutia, Tomsk, Taymur, Primorskii regions, participate in the discussion session after and taste traditional food.

Event 5- 3:15-4:30pm

Indigenous People with Disabilities - The Frontline for Inclusive Climate Solutions

Indigenous Peoples with Disabilities lead a panel discussion on the ways climate change affects our communities, and how solutions to climate change must serve intersectionally marginalised populations. This event will commence with sharing of story, as speakers each share the experiences of their communities, highlighting how Indigneous People with Disabilities are disproportionately and uniquely impacted by climate change. Recognising that our communities are also closest to the solutions, a panel discussion will follow on considerations for Indigenous and disability-inclusive climate action. Themes will include Loss & Damage, Disaster Risk Reduction, and ACE. Following a groundbreaking panel discussion at COP 26 in Glasgow, which was the first ever side event on Indigenous & Disability issues at a COP, this session will provide a valuable opportunity to connect Indigenous and Disabled knowledge and methodologies in the service of climate action at COP 27.

Unpacking LANDBACK: Origin Stories & Opportunities for Indigenous Led Climate Action / Global Models for #LANDBACK and Indigenous Led-Conservation

What is the LANDBACK movement and some of the origin points that have created this moment of mass support for Indigenous land return? In this panel, NDN Collective alongside key ally and partner, Indigenous Climate Action will be unpacking the LANDBACK movement. Join us to learn what LANDBACK is and to hear stories about how this Indigenous frontline led movement and call to action has shifted the conditions for how we are engaging with policy, philanthropy, corporations and government. LANDBACK is more than just a demand, it is tangible way to how we achieve climate action and justice for all peoples. Our panelists look forward to sharing lessons learned, success stories and some of the forward facing visioning they are holding for how we utilize LANDBACK as a catalyst for achieving our climate goals in North America and beyond. In this panel speakers will share stories and showcase how #LANDBACK exists and is being led in various regions of the world as a strategy to build Indigenous power, advance equity and justice and combat the climate crisis. We know that Indigenous Peoples across the world manage 80% of the world's biodiversity, thus signaling how key Indigenous leadership and knowledge is in mitigating and adapting to the climate crisis. Indigenous-led conservation and land management practices are not novel ideas to solve today's largest ecological problems, but rather, tried and true strategies that deserves investment and support from private and public sectors.

De las semillas a los satélites: Estrategias de Resiliencia Indígena

Los pueblos indígenas ya registran los impactos de los cambios climáticos en sus vidas y sus territorios. En el estado de Roraima un grupo de mujeres indígenas están creando estrategias de enfrentamiento al cambio climático con apoyo de la iniciativa “Parentas en el clima”. Sus luchas resuenan en los debates promovidos por el Núcleo Indígena de Cambio Climático del sur del estado de Amazonas. Liderazgos y lideresas especialistas en clima se reúnen para pensar en planes territoriales y climáticos indígenas.
