Mike and Hinekaa led the successful campaign to evict major oil companies from their oceanic territories and are currently involved in legal action against the NZ government together with a seperate court case against Aotearoa New Zealand’s top 7 corporate polluters. In this presentation they outline how data can provide insights into climate strategy and action.

Nothing About Us Without Us -Youth Voices in Climate Action
This session will discuss the importance of supporting young people to feel empowered to take action in their communities. Specifically, Haudenosaunee youth will discuss the different projects they are a part of to engage young people in climate action. They will also offer their advice and perspectives on how young people should be engaged, supported, and prioritized.

Facilitating African Indigenous Agendas to transfigure Indigenous-led Climate Solutions and Finance
The initiation and promotion of an African and Indigenous-led collaborative effort for developing mechanisms of governance, design and management of Indigenous financing linked to the FTGT $1.7 billion pledge. Discussion and roadmap of Indigenous-led climate solutions and agendas for Africa, to address key existing constraints in the region. A facilitation of a multi-sectoral engagement dialogue to increase and accelerate climate finance flow to Indigenous Peoples to create and fund Indigenous Nature-based solutions at scale to face biodiversity and climate global challenges.

Indigenous Peoples Leadership and Knowledge for Climate Solutions
The side event will feature leadership and climate action of Indigenous Peoples that are important to achieve the objective of the Paris Agreement. The side event will be an opportunity for international community to listen to the voices and perspectives of holders and practitioners of Indigenous Knowledge including representatives of Indigenous Women and Youth from Asia region.

Knowledge Sharing on the FCPF-Capacity Building program for Indigenous Peoples, Forest dependent Communities and Southern CSOs
The session will be a knowledge sharing on the progress of implementation of the World Bank-Forest Carbon Partnership Facility-Capacity Building Program for Indigenous Peoples, Forest-Dependent Communities and Southern CSOs (FCPF-CBP). The CBP is about to end this December 2022, and we would like to share and learn from the experiences of various implementing IP organizations on program management from the design to implementation and evaluation directly with IP organizations and communities in each region; and share on challenges and lessons learned form the experience. The session will have a panel of speakers and will be interactive with an open forum /discussion with the participants.

An interactive dialogue between Indigenous Peoples delegations and the UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of Human Rights in the Context of Climate Change
This side event will be carried out in a dialogue format after brief opening remarks. It is intended to assist Indigenous delegations attending COP 27 to understand the mandate and current priorities of this new Special Rapporteur and how to submit relevant communications. It will also provide an opportunity for delegations to share human rights violations they are facing as result of climate change (causes, impacts and responses), and to recommend themes for his upcoming studies. Co-sponsored by IITC and the office of Special Rapporteur.

In this session, we unpack how NDN Collective and TapRoot Earth are disrupting extractive finance systems in government and philanthropy while paving a just and equitable path for impact investment, climate finance, and grant making.
