Description:

The session tackles climate justice in the context of land grabbing, fortress conservation and climate solutions. It will examine how climate change policies and mitigation efforts can paradoxically lead to human rights violations and the dispossession of land from Indigenous Peoples who have been long stewards of nature. It promotes for equitable solutions that address historical injustices, respect land rights, and prioritize community-led approaches to conservation and climate resilience.

Topics to cover:

Land rights issues (green grabbing), Indigenous solutions (micro hydro)
Emerging conservation issues (criminalization, hunger, etc), highlight on DRC experience
Just transition issues in Indonesia
