Indigenous Rights and Sovereignty: Moving Beyond Carbon Markets and Other False Solutions

This presentation focuses on Indigenous rights and sovereignty within the context of carbon markets, including the implications of carbon pricing mechanisms for the physical, emotional, and spiritual health of Indigenous Nations and communities. Further, there will be discussions regarding the risks associated with carbon sequestering and the likelihood that such practices will result in further theft of Indigenous lands. Drawing on their lived experiences as community members and advocates within the climate justice movement, the panellists will share their perspectives on how to move beyond false solutions and towards the respect of Indigenous rights and the revitalization of Indigenous sovereignty.
