The event will look at how some current and potential future climate actions (including Nature-Based Solutions and Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCM) are and could impact indigenous peoples. Specifically, the event will share case studies on Indigenous Peoples contributions through their indigenous knowledge systems and customary governance to “Nature-Based Solutions” conducted by Indigenous Peoples in 6 countries (2 from Latin America, 2 from Africa and 2 from Asia. Overall, the event will also look at the existing construction of and debates on “NBS” with indigenous peoples’ perspectives, commentaries and observations on the ongoing “NBS” dialogues. The discussions will also explore the intersectionality of NBS and Voluntary Carbon Markets in the frame of human and indigenous peoples’ rights. What principles should VCM adhere to? How is this going to learn from experiences of indigenous peoples in climate financing?
