The UNFCCC Santiago Network on Loss and Damage: A Unique opportunity for Indigenous Peoples

Host Organisation

International Indian Treaty Council

Description

The Santiago Network (SN) is inviting Indigenous Peoples and their organizations from all regions and ecosystems to become members so that they can be supported and recognized as knowledge holders, experts and technical service providers in efforts to avert, minimize and address loss and damage caused by the climate crisis. The SN is a UNFCCC body under the Warsaw International Mechanism on Loss and Damage (WIM). One of the Network’s key aims is to facilitate Indigenous Peoples from all regions and ecosystems to share and exchange knowledge and expertise that can contribute to effective action and protect lives, homes, livelihoods and ways of life. Indigenous Peoples’ engagement is essential to ensure that actions to avert and address loss and damage are effective, equitable and respectful of rights and intergenerational, collective knowledge systems. This side event will present the work of the SN, the opportunities that membership can provide to Indigenous Peoples and examples of the expertise being shared by Indigenous Peoples.
