Indigenous Forum on Climate Change Chile. From the Atacama to the Sahara: a conversation between ancestral deserts

"FICC Chile Presentation Event" with its attending members and remotely, for those who cannot attend in person. Objective: to present the group and its objectives, in the socio-ecological and ethnic context of Chile.

The Atacama Desert is the driest desert in the world, but recent adverse effects have flooded certain areas. At the same time, it is one of the main sources of natural resources used worldwide, such as minerals like lithium, copper, etc., as well as renewable energy generation sites such as solar, wind and geothermal. Several of these are in indigenous ancestral territory. The objective of this discussion is to bring present the reality of indigenous communities such as "Tierra Amarilla", "Paipote", "Tarapacá" and "Parinacota" in front of these operations, making a comparison with the historic Sahara desert, which also faces challenges.
